About Kate...
In over ten years experience I've learned how much good fresh design and illustration can lift any product as diverse as books and homeware.
When I pick up a pencil I feel a flutter of excitement and that's what inspires me to produce my designs; to create that same buzz for my clients, whatever the product and however large or small the project.
The more impossible the client thinks the project is to achieve, the more stimulating I find it. I can find inspiration by listening to music or even sitting in the garden listening to bird song.
I'd love to see my designs on a teapot when making tea and on a double-decker bus.
After training on an Arts Foundation course in Chesterfield, I took a Graphic Design degree at Nottingham Trent University.
Whatever I'm doing, I'm on the look out for inspiring ideas to create winning designs for my clients. And even after a long working day drawing gives me a way to escape and express myself. I chill out by playing some music and let my pencil dance in time to the music.
I'm married, and enjoy swimming, skipping, walking and photography.
I regularly deliver workshops at the QUAD Derby, where I enjoy helping people of any age draw and express their creativity.
When I was a little girl a much loved story was A Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. One of my inspirations among illustrators is E H Shepard, creator of Winnie the Pooh. My favourite colour is blue because it's calming and relaxing reminding me of the sky and the sea. Oh and my eyes are blue too.
